Canadian Imaging Conference Canmore, Alberta 2023

The Receiving of my Craftsman of Photographic Arts Designation.

Canadian Imaging Conference Canmore 2023

Well the 2023 Canadian Imaging Conference is now done and everyone is back home and back in the saddle. It was a truly amazing 4 day event, incredible speakers, but most of all the see and talk to all of your inspirations. To me that is every single person who is involved in the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC). It was great to see and interact with the BC group, which had a very strong showing at the conference. To everyone in the PPOC, thank you for being outstanding colleagues, exceptional inspiration, and most importantly my friends and photography family. Cheers to you all.

On top of this I was awarded The Crafstman of Photographic Arts Designation (CPA), which initially I didn’t think of it as a big deal. However after reflecting on what it is and what it stands for, I am truly humbled by it. I watched many of my friends and colleagues also get awarded this designation and as well as the “next level up” designation The Master of Photographic Arts designation. It is truly mind blowing at the hard work and talent these individuals have.

Next we had the meet and greet on the first night and yet another truly inspiration speech/talk was given to us from some of the members of Team Canada (I believe only 18 people make it per country), talking about their experiences with The World Photography Cup (WPC), which is the photographer’s equivalent to the Olympics in sports.

If you are a photographer and are looking to truly “up your game”, then you really need to join a professional organization, and in my eyes it should be The Professional Photographers of Canada. A truly exceptional experience with unbelievably mind blowing talented, kind, and always willing to help photographers.

Another fantastic event that happens at these conferences is the trade expo. This is where the camera manufactures Canon, Sony, Nikon, lens manufacturers, Camera stores, book designs, professional printers all come together to show their products. I am grateful for I purchased a new carbon fiber tripod (LeoPhoto) from The Camera Store from Calgary that was at the expo, thank you guys, I just can’t believe how much I love using it.

Also at the conferences there is usually an option for extra outings, such as at this conference we got to go around Banff and Lake Louise areas to photograph some amazing landscapes with the one and only Kristian Bogner, who is one of the best photographers I have seen, a member of the PPOC and one of the nicest people you could meet who was always willing to help out. Truly magical day with totally exquisite landscapes.
